The executive director of the National Environment Agency has informed the Public Enterprise Committee of the National Assembly that from January to December 2016, the Agency has prosecuted 30 anti-littering offenders in the Greater Banjul Area.
Momodou Jaama Suwareh further told the committee that all of the offenders have been sentenced to fines from one thousand dalasi (D1000.00) to five thousand dalasi (D5000.00) or in default to service jail terms ranging from two months to six months imprisonment.
He also revealed that regional National Environment Agency offices also conducted routine anti-littering monitoring and enforcement in their respective regions and head offices for any possible prosecution of offenders.
Suwareh made these remarks during the presentation of the Agency’s Annual Report and Financial Statement for the year ended 31st December 2015 to 31st December 2016 respectively.
