The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Dr Mamadou Tangara Wednesday 3rd October 2018, met the newly appointed Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme and the Coordinator of the United Nations system in the Republic of The Gambia, Ms. Seraphine Wakana.
Honourable Tangara received Ms. Seraphine Wakana at his office in Banjul where the new Resident Coordinator presented a copy of her Letter of Credence.
Ms. Seraphine Wakana was appointed last month, replacing Ms Ade Mamonyane Lekoetje who was instrumental in the operational activities of the United Nations in The Gambia.
Honourable Tangara congratulated and welcomed Ms Seraphine Wakana to The Gambia, while emphasising the significant role the UN agencies play in the development of the country.
Meanwhile, the Honourable Minister also received the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to The Gambia, H.E Zhang Jiming who bids farewell after serving as the first Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of The Gambia since the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2016. Honourable Tangara reassured the outgoing Ambassador of The Gambia’s recognition of the one-China Policy.
