The National Assembly Select Committee on Education, Training and ICT on Monday unanimously deferred the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (NAQAA) report due to the absence of the board chairman.
Dr Gibril Jaw, the CEO, urged the members of the committee to go ahead and accept the presentation of the document and that their chairman would join them in the days to follow. He said the reports including the 2015 and 2016 Activity Reports and Audited Financial Statements were with him and that he didn’t want to waste the time of the committee.
However, Yaya Gassama, NAM for Kiang East and Chairman of the Education Committee, said that it was a matter of procedure that a certain number of people should be present before the presentation of any institution’s report and these include the managing director, finance director, board chair and an external auditor.
“If any one of these people is absent, we cannot hear them or allow them to present their report,” he ruled.
He said they would not allow NAQAA to present their report because a letter was sent to them since 27 August 2018, yet they claim receipt of the letter on Monday. “I think that shows a serious lapse in communication … and administration and we hope that it will be worked on”.
Gassama instructed the NAQAA executive to submit their 2017 Activity Report and Audited Financial Statement before the end of the month, adding that they would be communicated to and they must come in full representation.
